This card took ages to get to Ireland. Put it this way. Roisin posted the card before she returned to Ireland. She came home and has left. This was over 2 weeks ago and we only got the card during the week.

Its like something from a 1920's movie during some kinda war. East to west post is not very quick or efficent. At least we got the card. The card was your typical postcard on a stall kinda one. Not much to look at with the usual quickly scribbled message. Roisin was never one for labouring the point.

However when we went to her sisters house to celebrate Halloween with the kids we stumbled upon her caard that she had received!! Her card was nicer. Same make and all that but the picture was more exotic...easier on the eye... a card you'd return to again in the future. Admittedly the message was pretty much the same as ours but our picture was'nt as nice as her sisters....boo hoo hooo.

I wonder what factors determined Roisin's selection of cards. Maybe she saw no difference in the 2 cards but who knows?? I'd better not push it any further for fear of people thinking I've lost my nut.....but it makes you think....nice to get a card though.....

Postcard Updates

I know it's been afew weeks since my last post but I have not been idly passing time my fellow bloggers. I took it upon myself to post a postcard to my sister-in-law all the way to Saudi Arabia. I happened to be passing my local bookshop and spied upon a postcard stand. In I walk to discover a fine selection of cards. One of these cards caught my eye which reminded me of my home town of Cork. It was actually a picture of our famous Nano Nagle bridge with a lovely view of the Grand Parade to booth. Perfect card to send halfway across the world with a simple little note to the receiver.

I'm told she received the card in good time which is a very good thing because the postal system in the far east is atrocious. And all for the princely sum of Euro1:20. Not bad........

I will endeavour to send a few more in the coming weeks.

Why Post a Post Card?

Hi there everybody,
I told you I'd get the ball rolling on the postcards thingy......ha ha!!
Let me ask you a few simple questions just to guage how you feel about the whole subject of postcards!

When was the last time you sent a postcard?

Do you have postcards from the past tucked away somewhere, cards that you cherish?

Are you the kind of person who buys postcards whilst on holidays but never posts them?

Do you write short messages or do you try to fill up the whole card?

When was the last time you received a card from someone you love?

These are just a few of the questions that might jog memories of a time when people posted cards to each other, went to the bother of dropping you a few lines. Nowadays, we all send a quick text to the ones we love if we are away for a long period perhaps on holiday. But let me tell you this my friends, is it not a special thing to receive a postcard from a far off place?

Yes, indeed it is! Think back to when you were a young child and that feeling of receiving a postcard from family or friends who were lucky enough to go abroad on holiday. The analysing of the stamp and postmark, the reading aloud of the little note to all present, looking at the picture for ages trying to put yourself in their position and the eventual pasting of the card on the wall or fridge for all to see!!

You will announce to anyone that enters your house, "I received a postcard the other day, would you like to read it?". A postcard, unlike a private letter, can be shared with all the family. Even the postman that delivers the card cannot help but read the note on this little piece of cardboard. As a youngster, it always amazed me how such a small thing could find its way half way across the world.

Hopefully this blog will delve into the whole concept of the postcard. Has it seen its day? Will people revert back to the old ways of communication? Who makes these things? There are endless questions to be answered and hopefully some of them will be answered here!!
